Over the summer, the Mercury Alliance Board of Directors met to revise the organization’s bylaws and change its name.
The new name for the organization is Missourians for Transportation Investment. The purpose of the organization is to promote adequate and sustainable investment in, and improvement of, the transportation system for Missouri citizens.
Missourians for Transportation Investment (MFTI) has a new website and new social media accounts. You can visit us at www.mfti.org and find us on Facebook and Twitter using @ForMissourians.
The Mission is Still to Support Transportation Investment
While the name of the organization has changed, it will continue education and advocacy efforts for adequate and sustainable transportation investment in Missouri.
Each year, the Board of Directors will appoint MFTI members to serve on the Policy Council. The Policy Council will hold a planning retreat with the Board of Directors in October of each year to determine legislative priorities for the following session.
In September of each year, MFTI members will receive an email invitation to participate in a legislative priorities survey. The results of this online survey will focus the discussion during the planning retreat.
MFTI Will Continue Advocacy Efforts
MFTI will continue to hold a “Legislative Day” in the Capitol each month during the legislative session. Staff will work with transportation supporters around the state to coordinate these days to maximize participation and impact. MFTI will provide talking points and handouts to participants and provide them with legislative updates during a brief orientation at the beginning of each Legislative Day. The organization will also schedule meetings with legislative and executive branch leadership during these days.
MFTI will continue to host weekly conference calls for lobbyists and association leaders to collaborate on transportation investment efforts.
During the legislative session, MFTI members will continue to receive weekly legislative alerts through email. These alerts keep members informed of transportation investment legislation, committee hearings, and opportunities to engage elected officials on important transportation investment issues.
MFTI Will Continue Education Efforts
MFTI will continue its educational efforts on the importance of transportation investment. Staff will assist members with planning efforts to host state representatives and state senators on plant/job site tours and provide speakers for public and/or private events.
