The Delta Companies Inc. partnered with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to help children in northeast Arkansas and southern Illinois to Dream Big.
The Dream Big project celebrates engineering and aims to inspire the next generation.
Dream Big: Engineering Our World is a MacGillivray Freeman Film developed in partnership with ASCE and presented by Bechtel Corporation. Their website (https://dreambigfilm.com) describes the film in the following manner:
“Narrated by Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges, Dream Big: Engineering Our World is a first of its kind film for IMAX and giant screen theatres that will transform how we think about engineering. From the Great Wall of China and the world’s tallest buildings, to underwater robots, solar cars and smart, sustainable cities, Dream Big celebrates the human ingenuity behind engineering marvels big and small, and reveals the heart that drives engineers to create better lives for people around the world.”
ASCE led a coalition of engineering organizations to design the Dream Big project to be used by museums, engineers, and teachers. It is also a tool for fostering connections between science centers where the giant screen film plays and volunteers from the local community serve as partners, role models, and experts.
The Delta Companies helped provide the Dream Big toolkit to elementary and junior high schools – 81 in southern Illinois and 119 in northeast Arkansas. The toolkit is a two-disc set that includes the full-length feature film in English, French, Spanish, and closed captioned (licensed for educational screenings only), the complete teacher’s guide, all companion videos, and downloadable files for classroom use.
In 2018, ASCE embarked on the ambitious goal of putting the Dream Big educational toolkits into every public school across the United States. Thanks to the generosity of ASCE members, companies, and individuals, that big dream is now a reality.
